Wirrina Flotilla: VMR 511
The Wirrina Flotilla was established in response to the need for a volunteer marine search and rescue facility to be established in the area.
The Flotilla’s area of responsibility extends from Port Willunga in the north to Kangaroo Island in the south. These are some of the more dangerous waters in the state and we have been involved in a number of serious incidents where our services have saved lives.
Our vessel (call sign Sea Rescue 05) is located at Marina St Vincent, Wirrina and sits on an air dock enabling very quick response time when called for, and is also trailerable to anywhere in the state to assist other Volunteer Marine Rescue units.
We provide a 24/7 emergency response and one of our members provides a radio monitoring service from his home base, when available to do so. The base call sign is “Sea Rescue Normanville” VMR509 and monitors VHF channels 16, 21 and 80 plus 27MHz channel 88.
