This new centre was the idea of the previous CopperCoast Flotilla Leader, the late Steve Bartlett whose vision, determination and energy has finally seen his dream come true.
After 5 years of planning and fundraising, we are proud to announce that the new Copper Coast Operations and Training Centre will hopefully start construction in the latter half of this year, thanks to the Squadron being granted in excess of $300,000.00 by the Commonwealth Government through the Building Better Regions Fund, and the Squadron, the Copper Coast Council, Lions Australia and the Copper Coast community providing the balance of the funds to enable construction to go ahead.
The project will provide much needed accomodation for the expanding flotilla membership, a new Operations Centre including a microwave radio link between the silos and the new building which will provide much improved radio coverage of the Spencer Gulf. There will also be increased amenities with 2 offices, kitchen, store room , accessible wet area and a large training/meeting room with audio/visual facilities.
The radio room/Operations Centre will have its own toilets, mini kitchen as well as a custom designed and built radio console.
The new boatshed has been designed to accomodate the new VMR rescue vessel and tow vehicle due for delivery in the next few years.
The training Room will be available for hire to the local community and regional VMR groups for training and meetings. Its close proximity to the Wallaroo boat ramp will mean the response time to a call out will be reduced by approimately 50 to 70 %
